Wrong Turn was a 2009 American horror film and the sequel to Wrong Turn (2003). The film was directed by Rob Schmidt from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. The cinematography was done by Darren Doane. It stars Joe Manganiello as Burt, Vanessa Hudgens as Kate, Lauren Lee Smith as Sarah, Norman Reedus as Ranger Frank Clevenger, Stephen Lang as Pete Clevenger, and Sam Shepard as Sheriff Carlton Clevenger II. The plot of the night revolves around a group of friends who have just celebrated their high school graduation in Mexico. After the party, the group decides to go on a short stopover before continuing their journey back home. After they stop for the night, under the cover of darkness one of them - Nick (Vanessa Hudgens) is kidnapped by a serial killer named Frank (Stephen Lang). When their friends find out they come together to rescue her. The score for "Wrong Turn 2: Dead End" was composed by Michael D. Simon.The film is a sequel to "Wrong Turn" (2003). In June 2007, it was announced that Orion Pictures had acquired all North American distribution rights from Morgan Creek Productions with a scheduled release of September 19, 2008. In February 2008, the movie release date was pushed back two weeks from September 19 to September 26, 2008. In March 2008 it was announced that the film would be released direct-to-video in the UK under the title "Dead End". The film was released on August 12, 2009 in the UK. Prior to its scheduled September 2008 release, the MPAA gave the film an R rating for "strong bloody brutal violence/gore, language". The producers of the film were given 30 days to edit their film to receive an R rating. Wrong Turn 2 was then released unrated in North America with great success grossing over $14 million at the US box office and is among one of Lions Gate’s highest-grossing films of all time. Oftentimes films rated NC-17 or X are released unrated or with little edits done to receive an R rating. For example, the film "Saw II" which contained similar violent content was released with an R rating. The film opened on September 26, 2008 in 2,547 theaters grossing $7.6 million domestically over the opening weekend. The film grossed $18.8 million in its run domestically.
